Chat Star

Ditto

I was diagnosed with RRMS in 1997. I worked as a processing supervisor in a commodities yard from 1980 to 1988. Took the whole year of 1989 off to ponder my predicament. Started driving a cab in 1990 and started an AUTOCAD class in 1993. After the class was over I finally got a job as a detailer at an engineering firm in Feb 1995. Was promoted to Designer in Oct. 1995. Quit driving cab in FEB 1995. Ultimately ending up at DANA CORP in Jan 1998. Lost that job in April 2001. The official reason was I was let go for making threats against a co worker. I was working on the PDGS cad system and training a 20 year old to use the system while I was taking classes for the SDRC cad system.  (more )

Chat Hosting Schedule

The Chat Schedule breaks things down by day, and show the equivalent times in different time zones.  Hopefully this will make it a bit clearer how an Eastern Standard Time relates to your personal timezone or country.

Reading the schedule is easy: Just click on the day of the week to jump down.  and then look down from your local time zone on top to the time you are interested in => bold times are when hosts have volunteered to be present.

Knowing someone is available to provide support at dependable, specific local times makes a chat more successful.

Please, if you go in chat and a host does not answer you right away, please wait,  Our hosts do a 2 hours stretch and need bathroom time and coffee time.  So if they're away right at the sec you arrive, be patient, they will come back.

I have multiple sclerosis. I must have stolen it from someone. I am willing to return it so if anyone knows who's it belongs to, I aam will return it it. I have 2 beautiful girls. my eldest is almost 8 (spina bifida) and my youngest is 4. My eldest has taught me a lot. Her pearls of wisdom include " I have spina bifida, what's your problem" snd when I whine about something to do or have done medically... "Dad, ya gotta do what ya gotta do" My kids mean the world to me. The most pressing on my mind right now is them. It is hard right now because I stayed with someone that I loved but, did not have the love to give back to me. I am coming to the conclusion that I hung on to my relationship because that is what I wanted to do or needed to do. I did not see the fact that I was alone and fighting MS by myself. I now know that one of the spinoffs of MS is a relationship killer or it can be if people let it. Even with that I have the rosiest outlook for the future. I have a plan, get healthy and get my kids. What else is there. I have great friends and supportive parents. What else do I need. Onwards and upwards. Everyday looking down on the flowers and not up at them is a day full lof possibilities. Life has a way of challenging you and now that i have figured out what the challenges are...Look out. Don`t ever think or feel that you are alone, you may be physically but don`t be in your heart.   more

Hi all my name is Jen. I have SPMS. I was dx in February of 2003. It all started while i was pregnant with my son, I was constantly complaining of numbness on my left side, esp my arm. Of course they blamed it on the pregnancy which at the time seemed plausible. Then in December of 2002 I lost vision in my left eye. I want thru MRIs, steroid treatments and finally a spinal tap. I was then dx with RRMS the following February. When the docs told me I had MS I immediately thought i was a "Jerry's kid", obviously I didn't know what MS was.
I started taking Avonex, which i hated!! The neuro I had at the time was constantly pushing steroids into me which caused dangerously high eye pressures, and as a result I am legally blind. I have had laser surgery on each eye to relieve pressure, but the damage was already done.

I am a 49 year old male from Pennsylvania. I am disabled with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis(PPMS -Primary Progressive MS). PPMS begins with problems walking, which gradually gets worse. PPMS is a very aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis. I have been to many MS gatherings and I've learned much from others.

I've heard some ask: "Why GOD, why me?".

I don't ask such rhetorical questions for which there is no real true answer.

I don't care to be around others who are bitter, angry and feel sorry for themselves.

Currently I am in a wheelchair. I can still walk but, not very far nor very fast. I have bad tremors in both hands and I can't really eat in public at any restaurant, as my food goes flying. It would actually be pretty funny if it weren't so pathethic.

I used to be nice to look at. Now, thanks to MS, I'm just fun to watch.

Dr Hassan

Dr Hassan & Dad
I have been recently diagnosed with MS. It all started in April when I started to suffer from double vision, it took me 2 weeks until I went to the doctor to have an eye test, the doctor said that I had weakness in the muscles of my eyes. However I did ignore the whole thing and the double vision soon went away. 15th of April I headed to Essex for the last term to sit for my exams. During the term I spent most of it studying and getting little sleep. I was tired most of the time but blamed it on the lack of sleep. 6th of June I was back in Amman and everything was pretty normal the first day. The next day I was invited to a party. I did notice that most things were blur when I looked at and some were double, didn’t pay much attention for the whole thing not that I improved but I just thought that all I need is sleep. On the 10th of June I found it a bit difficult to walk in a straight manner and on this very day my left leg was so weak that I couldn’t move it normally. Things stayed the same and all I heard from my Mom and Dad is you should get more sleep or this is malnutrition and when my father saw me the way I used to walk he used to have a go at me. Maybe because all the symptoms I suffered from were Brain Tumor symptoms and he was scared and indenial. However around the 20th of June Baba took me for a C-T Scan and thank GOD everything was normal, it wasn’t what my dad and I thought, Brain Tumor. On the day of my birthday I went again to a different doctor to check my eyes and again he said that there was nothing wrong but advised us to go see a neurologist. I did go and he told me that there was definitely something wrong after examining me but couldn’t tell what it was until I went for an M.R.I, we did tell him that the C-T Scan shows no sign of a tumor so its not that and he answered “I hope not”. I think this was the most depressing moment of my life when I didn’t know what to expect the next day, the unknown is always scary.  ( much more  )

Please, we have issued an All Points Bulletin for any new chatters !   Come in, ask them to send us their e-mail addresses at PWMS@PeopleWithMS.com ; it is the only way we can send them out our weekly newsletter.  Also, let them know about your stories and pictures, and perhaps ask if they'd like to submit one.! A great way to get instant recognition, by appearing in the newsletter.  Most of us love to know more about each other and see who we chat with. When no one is here and a new MSER comes in and reads our stories and poems it helps to read and see how MSers deal with life.

SCOTCH EGGS

PREP TIME: APPROX. 30 MINS.

COOKING TIME: APPROX. 10 MINS.

INGREDIENTS: 6 HARD BOILED EGGS - 2 TABLESPOONS CHOPPED PARSLEY - 1/2 TEASPOON GROUND SAGE - 1/4 TEASPOON PEPPER - 1/4 CUP FLOUR - 2 EGGS, BEATEN - 3/4 CUP BREAD CRUMBS - VEGETABLE OIL OR WHATEVER U PREFER FOR FRYING

PEEL HARD BOILED EGGS & PUT ASIDE

IN BOWL MIX ALL DRY INGREDIENTS WELL. IN ANOTHER BOWL WISK 2 EGGS & ADD TO DRY THEN ADD TO SAUSAGE MEAT, MIX THOROUGHLY.

GENTLY PAT SAUSAGE MIXTURE AROUND HARD BOILED EGG ABOUT A 1/4 INCH THICK BUT REMEMBER U NEED ENOUGH MIXTURE TO COVER ALL 6 EGGS. ONCE DONE DROP EGGS WITH A SPOON INTO HOT OIL & FRY UNTIL DONE OR GOLDEN BROWN. LIFT EVERY SO OFTEN WITH THE SPOON TO TRY AND PREVENT OVER BROWNING ON THE BOTTOM. (OBVIOUSLY I USED A POT LOL) ONCE DONE PUT ON A PLATE LINED WITH PAPER TOWEL & ONCE COOLED SLICE IN HALF WITH A VERY SHARP KNIFE TO HELP PREVENT EGG YOKE FROM CRUMBLING AND ENJOY!

Traditional Scottish Recipes  - Scotch Eggs

Here is another simple recipe for making a traditional Scottish dish which is still popular served either hot, or cold at picnics.

Ingredients:
1lb sausage meat
5 hard boiled eggs, with shells removed
1 large raw egg
3oz approx of dry breadcrumbs
Pinch of mace, salt, freshly ground pepper
Small quantity of flour

1 tablespoon water

Method:
Dust the hard boiled eggs in a little flour. Mix the mace, salt and pepper with the sausage meat and divide into five equal portions. Place on a floured surface. Wrap/mould the sausage meat round the egg, making sure there are no gaps. Beat the egg and water together and coat the meat-covered egg with this and then breadcrumbs (you may have to press the crumbs onto the meat). Deep fry in hot oil (360F/185C) taking care as you put the eggs into the oil. Cook for about 5/6 minutes. If you don't have a deep fat fryer, they can be cooked in oil in a frying pan, turning frequently to ensure the meat is fully cooked.

Look at me, Look at me
I am changing
Trying every way I can
I am changing
I'll be better than I am
I'm trying to find a way to understand
But I need you, I need you
I need a hand
I am changing
Seeing everything so clear
I am changing
I'm gonna start right now, right here
I'm hoping to work it out
And I know that I can
But I need you, I need a hand

All of my life I've been a fool
Who said I could do it all alone
How many good friends have I already lost?
How many dark nights have I known?

Walking down that wrong road
There was nothing I could find
All those years of darkness
Could make a person blind
But now I can see

I am changing
Trying every way I can
I am changing
I'll be better than I am
But I need a friend
To help me start all over again
That would be just fine
I know it's gonna work out this time
'Cause this time I am
This time I am
I am changing
I'll get my life together now
I am changing
Yes I know how
I'm gonna start again
I'm gonna leave my past behind
I'll change my life
I'll make a vow and nothings gonna stop me now.

I blogged this song because, I feel that there is no change without help. Good or bad no one can ever say that they made a change alone. Someone, some force, something was the promoter of that change. In 2010 , most of us vowed that something with us was going to change, IE. marital status, unhealthy habits, weight....... We must realize that there is something that must change before anything else can change for the positive and that is our mind set. I was once told that "If we always do what we have always done,we will always get what we have always gotten." To me this means that we cannot continue to do the same things and expect the results to change.

I was also thinking that depending on the change, who we surround ourselves with must change. You cannot be a God fearing Christian, Muslim,Buddhist, .....etc etc and be surrounded by Atheists. They are not working in the same direction that you are working in. That goes for just about any change. I am firm believer that you are only as strong as your support system.

With that being said, I am there for you my readers, if only in thought. Whatever it is that you need to change as long as it is for the positive, know that roughwryter got your back!!!

Until I write again.

MY MS ANGER

To many I always seem gay
But alas it was always not that way
For out of the blue one morning
Came forth one big ole warning
For just two words put me in mourning
And just like that the wonderful life that I knew
Was totally gone forever out of view
And I remember saying awhile ago
When my body dared not say no
No two words are going to be
Not having my body listen to me
Whose the boss here
Do I make myself clear
My anger is really now full blown
Like none other I have known
Oh the words that I would really like to say
I know I must keep at bay
Who knew just two words could have brought
Me down so easily who have thought

General Information

PeopleWithMS Newsletter 08-19-07

OUR MISSION

Our objective is to provide an informal, supportive site for people seeking on-line information about Multiple Sclerosis.  We aren't doctors, we aren't experts.  We just live it everyday.  We formed this site to share what we have learned, provide a focal point for exchange of information,  and give back to the community.

Support is a very big word when it comes to MS.  Doctors can only tell you so much during an office visit.  Leaving unanswered questions, concerns and issues.  People with any disease can often learn best from each other.  To this end we provide a chat forum to share information and suggestions, posting of the latest news, and links to authoritative sources of information.

There are many informative sites out there.  Visit them all!  You can never have enough information.  We do not intend to compete with any other sites Like coffee shops, each has it's own unique atmosphere and clientele.  There can never be enough of them.

Our chat is open for anything that has to do with MS. Some topics are not pleasant. But need to be talked about. If you have a problem, no matter what it is, chances are there is someone in chat that can help you. The one thing that PWMS will not accept is being laughed at for any MS problem. We expect all chatters to be considerate of others.

We have appointed Linda-NV & Aileen as the RA Coordinators. Our current list of room administrators is: Aileen, Bette42,  Debby, Linda-NV,  Norma, Soporific, Lady Di, JenJen74, BobbyGene,  and JackIL.  All host at scheduled times and frequently chat off-hosting hours as well.  They can help you if you need help.

Chat Etiquette Reminder

Please make a point to welcome any new chatter that comes in our room. Introduce yourself.  Don't just be a bump on a log!  Ask if there is anything special they want to ask about, know about.  Don't ignore the new chatter.  Offer them coffee and a muffin.  Make them feel at home.  Don't keep chattering about peripheral MS stuff, or off-topic stuff, and ignore a newcomer.

Also keep in mind that Laws and Health Care options also vary widely both within countries and across the globe.  So be sensitive to the personal situations and tribulations chatters face.  Don't rub in how great things are for you.

Between the laughs, a serious note:  We are a support chat. With that said, we can only help by listening; none of us are professionals. In our years of chatting with MSers online, one of the most common problems is depression.  This is a very serious problem. We do feel sometimes just being a good friend, listening, and kidding around can help. And sometimes is just the right thing to turn the a bad mood around.  But when things just don't appear to be getting any better in a reasonable amount of time, and chat is just a temporary fix, it is time to get professional help. Many times it's as simple as a medication change.  Or something else.

So, About Our Chat:  We try to maintain a positive, upbeat attitude.  We may have MS, but MS doesn't have us.  It's not the focal point of our existence, it's just one part.  So if there's a problem, no need to moan and groan - it just needs solving.  Go over it, around it, blow it up, or joke about it.  We won't ignore somebody's problem because it's gross, unseemly, or offends somebody else's sensibilities.  We'll help figure out a solution.  If somebody want's to wallow in their problem, we're not going to be too sympathetic.

If anyone has anything they think ought to be added to the weekly news letter, please email me at deb@durgin.net.
