PeopleWithMS - Intro
We want to thank all who have helped to build PeopleWithMS and those who are keeping it going.  You know who you are.  PeopleWithMS is a very special online family, that we can all depend on when we need to share good times and bad times. There is no other MS chat quite like ours, so if you fit, you know it. We'll drop everything to help the Newly Diagnosed.  However, we don't talk endlessly about MS all day and night. Support is a whole lot more than the specifics of MS itself. Sure, there are times somebody is down and just needs cheering up.  On the more positive side of life, there has to be some fun and less serious diversions. To that end . . . . .

We have resumed all of our nightly specials like Happy Hour, Trivia Tuesdays & Thursdays , Wednesday Woman's Chat, Friday Night Music Trivia and Prayer Chat after a holiday break.  Please join us.  Sunday night is open for any special any ideas anyone might have.  What would you like to do ?

We opened an Inspiration Room.  Please stop by and give it a read.  We leave thoughts for the day, as well as candles and prayer for anyone who needs them.

Chat weekends daytime can be really slow.  We see many come in and go right back out,  though a revolving door, missing each other by minutes.  If you come in,  stay around a while.  Are you are home weekends ? Want to get your name in lights ?  Host your own weekly chat!  Contact Norma or Bobbygene.

Late Nighter Chat   There has been a lot more late night chat action even to 3 -4 AM EST.  And EarlyBird action at  6-7 AM.  So join us whenever you are up !  The sleep fairy has been cutting back on the flyby activity due to the economic downturn.  Some of our homes are only being visited every-other-night, others not at all  ! ! !

PeopleWithMS Newsletter 12302008 PWMS Chat Update:

Chat Star

Ditto

I was diagnosed with RRMS in 1997. I worked as a processing supervisor in a commodities yard from 1980 to 1988. Took the whole year of 1989 off to ponder my predicament. Started driving a cab in 1990 and started an AUTOCAD class in 1993. After the class was over I finally got a job as a detailer at an engineering firm in Feb 1995. Was promoted to Designer in Oct. 1995. Quit driving cab in FEB 1995. Ultimately ending up at DANA CORP in Jan 1998. Lost that job in April 2001. The official reason was I was let go for making threats against a co worker. I was working on the PDGS cad system and training a 20 year old to use the system while I was taking classes for the SDRC cad system.  (more )

Chat Hosting Schedule

The Chat Schedule breaks things down by day, and show the equivalent times in different time zones.  Hopefully this will make it a bit clearer how an Eastern Standard Time relates to your personal timezone or country.

Reading the schedule is easy: Just click on the day of the week to jump down.  and then look down from your local time zone on top to the time you are interested in => bold times are when hosts have volunteered to be present.

Knowing someone is available to provide support at dependable, specific local times makes a chat more successful.

Please, if you go in chat and a host does not answer you right away, please wait,  Our hosts do a 2 hours stretch and need bathroom time and coffee time.  So if they're away right at the sec you arrive, be patient, they will come back.

In November of 07, I lost consciousness and was in a coma for 3 days, then  was told I had a stroke.I was hospitalized for one month. Upon release I was  able to walk 3-4 miles before tiring, and MS had not been diagnosed as of yet, I was able to take buses around and for a shot period i seemed to be recovering nicely, I was able to shop for myself etc. Then the falling, freezing of the legs began. around February of 08 i was given the MS diagnosis, and that i would be able to live a somewhat normal life using copaxone. Relapsing/remitting was the call, these last 6 months it seems to relapse only. Yesterday the MRIs shown no progression of lesions and yet my condition grows worse.  The spinal MRI shows 2 compressed discs narrowing my spinal cord and I will be seen at the spine center soon.  My strongest ally is my hope as i am fortunate to live in San Francisco close to the bio tech center of the country, We have many stem cell research centers, and UCSF hospital has all the latest meds. To me hope, good doctors, and hope keep me going, as well as this site.   (more )

Stories and Picture's

PWMS  Welcomes!

Please, we have issued an All Points Bulletin for any new chatters !   Come in, ask them to send us their e-mail addresses at PWMS@PeopleWithMS.com ; it is the only way we can send them out our weekly newsletter.  Also, let them know about your stories and pictures, and perhaps ask if they'd like to submit one.! A great way to get instant recognition, by appearing in the newsletter.  Most of us love to know more about each other and see who we chat with. When no one is here and a new MSER comes in and reads our stories and poems it helps to read and see how MSers deal with life.

Anyone who wants to add Pictures or update their story, please do so.

BobbyGene has pastoral training with the Assembly of God and has offered to host a chat broadly oriented towards prayer as a support method.  As he has stated, "In my training I've had to learn the in's and outs of many various religions and I believe we could keep the focus on support and prayer when needed."

HeadsUp !

PeopleWithMS - Heads Up ! ! !
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pitty, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins???” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

                                                     MY MS PRAYER

  I woke up one morning.
  And without warning.
  I was just so afraid.
I turned to God and prayed.
I asked him why why why.
Cause all I wanna do is cry.
All I think is now I'm gonna die.
  No answers do I get.
  No decisions are met.
This all makes me so uneasy.
That my stomach gets very queasy.
For I am just so sure.
That they'll never be a cure..
Lord I need you're tender care.
  To make me more aware.
That you will be always there.
  Never far but always near.
That all the uncertainties that I'll face.
Will be meant with your loving grace.
Calm my fears so I'll always know.
Your loving arms around me will go.
That calm soothing healing voice I'll hear.
  A whispering in my ear.
Come to me, come to me at your darkest hour.
To feel faith's everlasting healing power.
And that is why Lord I'll always believe.
That no matter what happens you will never leave.

THANKS, BOOMER

A twitch in my hand or a tingle in my toes

what happens next nobody knows.

Sometimes we can't remember what we want to say

but we have to carry on from day to day.

The pain we all endure is hard to comprehend

and all we can do is pray for a cure to make the pain end.

Fear of the unknown is always there

and the feelings that some people just don't care.

People can't see what we feel

and some even say it's not even real.

The sadness comes and strangles your heart

and makes the next day hard to start.

But don't give up hope there's always tomorrow

and don't give in to the heartache and sorrow.

We have to believe there's an end in sight

and for our health we'll continue to fight.

Find ME.

Find me beneath all these outward things you see,
Look deep within my heart and soul and tell me now do
you see me?
Don't stare at my w/c, or cane, or walker, or braces
that I have to use to walk,
They don't have feelings that can be felt nor can they
even talk.
Look at the smile on my face that I wear proudly
everyday,
Stop and talk to me not act like im not there and
stare while you walk away.
M.S. isn't something that I asked for or did anything
wrong to end up with,
Nor would I wrap it up with a pretty bow to give to
you as a gift,
Is it really that hard to see I'm the same as you and
have feelings to?
Surprising isn't it that even with M.S. I still have
needs, wants, hopes, and dreams to.
All I'm asking is to not look at the stigmatism
society has placed on me because of my disabilities,
Look past the disabilities, Look Inside my heart and
soul and Please Find ME.....

*On Every Journey There Is A Meaning*

General Information

PeopleWithMS Newsletter 08-19-07

OUR MISSION

Our objective is to provide an informal, supportive site for people seeking on-line information about Multiple Sclerosis.  We aren't doctors, we aren't experts.  We just live it everyday.  We formed this site to share what we have learned, provide a focal point for exchange of information,  and give back to the community.

Support is a very big word when it comes to MS.  Doctors can only tell you so much during an office visit.  Leaving unanswered questions, concerns and issues.  People with any disease can often learn best from each other.  To this end we provide a chat forum to share information and suggestions, posting of the latest news, and links to authoritative sources of information.

There are many informative sites out there.  Visit them all!  You can never have enough information.  We do not intend to compete with any other sites Like coffee shops, each has it's own unique atmosphere and clientele.  There can never be enough of them.

Our chat is open for anything that has to do with MS. Some topics are not pleasant. But need to be talked about. If you have a problem, no matter what it is, chances are there is someone in chat that can help you. The one thing that PWMS will not accept is being laughed at for any MS problem. We expect all chatters to be considerate of others.

We have appointed Linda-NV & Aileen as the RA Coordinators. Our current list of room administrators is: Aileen, Bette42, Cookie, Debby, Linda-NV,  Norma, Soporific, BobbyGene,  JackIL, and Sumo58.  All host at scheduled times and frequently chat off-hosting hours as well.  They can help you if you need help.

Chat Etiquette Reminder

Please make a point to welcome any new chatter that comes in our room. Introduce yourself.  Don't just be a bump on a log!  Ask if there is anything special they want to ask about, know about.  Don't ignore the new chatter.  Offer them coffee and a muffin.  Make them feel at home.  Don't keep chattering about peripheral MS stuff, or off-topic stuff, and ignore a newcomer.

Also keep in mind that Laws and Health Care options also vary widely both within countries and across the globe.  So be sensitive to the personal situations and tribulations chatters face.  Don't rub in how great things are for you.

Between the laughs, a serious note:  We are a support chat. With that said, we can only help by listening; none of us are professionals. In our years of chatting with MSers online, one of the most common problems is depression.  This is a very serious problem. We do feel sometimes just being a good friend, listening, and kidding around can help. And sometimes is just the right thing to turn the a bad mood around.  But when things just don't appear to be getting any better in a reasonable amount of time, and chat is just a temporary fix, it is time to get professional help. Many times it's as simple as a medication change.  Or something else.

So, About Our Chat:  We try to maintain a positive, upbeat attitude.  We may have MS, but MS doesn't have us.  It's not the focal point of our existence, it's just one part.  So if there's a problem, no need to moan and groan - it just needs solving.  Go over it, around it, blow it up, or joke about it.  We won't ignore somebody's problem because it's gross, unseemly, or offends somebody else's sensibilities.  We'll help figure out a solution.  If somebody want's to wallow in their problem, we're not going to be too sympathetic.

If anyone has anything they think ought to be added to the weekly news letter, please email me at deb@durgin.net.
