PeopleWithMS - Intro

In Memory of Theresa Kedzierski, Muff aka Muffaroni

On July 21, 2005 we lost a very dear friend many knew as as Muff, aka Muffaroni.  Muff was a very helpful person in chat. She kept us going when times got tough. She never complained about her problems.  Though she had many.  She always asked how others were doing, and helped others, the best way she knew how to. What she told all of us is;  "I tell every one I meet and speak to; I have MS, it does not have me and "I am not disabled, I am differently-abled."

She struggled alone, daily. Had no family other than a brother in a group home in New Jersey.  Barely any money.  A ramshackle trailer roof over her head.  Crawling down the hall because her wheelchair didn't fit.  Gave up her shower chair to someone who needed it more, and showered herself on the shower floor.  Yet she went on, with dignity.  Taking three busses and two hours to get to church, each week, but walking up the aisle in church.  Kept her head up, because she said;  "God gave us MS to help others."  It made us stronger, not weaker.  We can learn a lot from her example.  She had chat, and on-line friends. All of you.

When her computer was down, Red and I talked to Muff at least 3 or 4 times per week. We didn't hear from her for 10 days. Red called the Las Vegas Police. They'd found her. Alone in her trailer in a 100 plus degree heat wave. She had passed away.

We were going to close chat. But no, Red said. Muff would wants us to go on.  And we will.  We need the support of our friends. There are others who would be alone, if not for all of us, on-line.  Talking to each other on holidays, when our on-line family is all we have.  The chat was all she had on holidays, and we tried to make sure she wasn't alone.  This was a big part of her life.  And we're going to keep that part of her life going, through chat.  She taught us a lot.  We are in chat for others - there's always someone worse off who needs support.

Muff asked about all of you.  You know who you are.  She always asked how everyone was, and missed you all so very much. We now will miss her very badly. Pray for Muff, she's at peace now.

This Chat is dedicated to the memory of Muff and her spirit of helping those less fortunate

Download the PeopleWithMS VideoLinda-NV has created a fantastic new video featuring many of your favorite PeopleWithMS chatters.  Download the video to see all your friends in action at:  ftp://ftp.peoplewithms.com/PWMS.wmvftp://ftp.peoplewithms.com/PWMS.wmv

(To save, right click the link and " Save As " to put it in some memorable place like your ' My Received Files ' folder.  If your computer, at that moment, helpfully offers the choice to Save or Open, you can probably open it with a program like Windows Media Player, Real Player, or something similar and play the video directly.  If you want to save it for posterity, open whatever program you have that can play videos, and navigate to your Documents & Settings, My Documents, My Received Files folder to play the video you saved.)

On a personal note, MrRed wishes to thank each and every chatter who plotted tirelessly and participated in my personal Birthday Party.  I was already a happy ole fart, but it's always refreshing to be put in my place by friends and fiends.  BoomerGirl wrote an excellent poem for me you will fine in the Poems section below

Deena

Hi guys, my nickname is Deena, given to me by my oldest sister when I was brought home from the hospital from birth, It seems to fit me better then real name Bernadine. I have primary progressive ms for about 13 years, but I remember a few problems way before that (like falling on level ground) thought it was me and my walking. I was dx 4-13-01 with PPMS after 7 yrs of not knowing what was wrong, went to lots of drs they saw damage in brain but none thought ms, finally went to a DR who wanted spinal tap done and proved ms, PPMS from start. I have all the symptoms like the rest of you guys but mine is always with me (some days better then others).  (more )

Chat Hosting Schedule

The Chat Schedule breaks things down by day, and show the equivalent times in different time zones.  Hopefully this will make it a bit clearer how an Eastern Standard Time relates to your personal timezone or country.

Reading the schedule is easy: Just click on the day of the week to jump down.  and then look down from your local time zone on top to the time you are interested in => bold times are when hosts have volunteered to be present.

Knowing someone is available to provide support at dependable, specific local times makes a chat more successful.

Please, if you go in chat and a host does not answer you right away, please wait,  Our hosts do a 2 hours stretch and need bathroom time and coffee time.  So if they're away right at the sec you arrive, be patient, they will come back.

MY name is patti and my story is different than most people with multiple sclerosis . Back in 2004 I not only had been in a car accident which injured my neck which lead to having a bone graft, plate and screws placed in my neck but began to experience numbness in my left hand and fingers . By 2005 i started dropping things and tripping but figured that i was tired and over looked it. By Nov 2006 I felted every nerve in my spine go off from my neck to my bottom where I ended up in the Hospital for 5 days after the doctor's thought i had a stroke because i lost my speech for 3 days and had really bad tremors all over my body which lasted for 4 hours until a shot was given to stop the tremor's. I also had no balance and had to stay in bed. After going thru all that i have never been able to walk well again and use a mobile scooter to get around. An EEG was done which showed something was going on . More test were done that showed i had not had a stroke and they sent me home. In Dec 2006 I saw a Neurologist who sent me to have mri done which evidence showed i had multiple sclerosis. By August 2006 i ended up having a Brain aneurysm. Im now currently seeing a Neurologist/MS Specialist who also ran other test that also pointed to new lesions on my spine, Multiple sclerosis. life is still good for I have my Husband who is loving, understanding and there for me.  (More)

Well here goes my MS story. I haden't been feeling very well then my entire left side went kinda numb so I was thinking stroke.  I went to the Dr. and told him what was going on.  He said let me run some tests and he did.  He drew blood took X-Rays ordered all kinds of lab work to be done and ask me to come back and see him in a week. I went back to see him in a week still feeling the same as before. Tired and wore out and my left side kinda numb. He ask me how long it had been since I had been to see a Dr. and I told him I didn't know for sure maybe 12 or 15 years. He said you should see a Dr. at least once a year. I told him I was from the old school if it ain't broke, you don't fix it. He then told me that I hadn't had a stroke but he thought I had MS but he wanted to send me to a neuro so I agreed. I went to see this neuro and she started her batch of tests. I told her I had already had those done but she wanted to do them herself. So I had more blood work done more X-Rays and she ordered an MRI which I had done also. She ask me to come back in a week which I done and she said yes she thought I had MS but wanted to do some more tests.....   (More)

Trivia Night in the PeopleWithMS Chat

Tuesday

8pm EST

5 pm PST

LFShaw hosts our Tuesday Night Trivia!

Trivia Tuesday, where the host ask the questions.

Sit back, relax.  It's Tuesday night.  Enjoy!

Trivia Tuesday July 8

Kathlame gratiously subbed for the vacationing LFShaw on short notice, with " Urban Legends - Advanced Edition " trivia.  BoomerGirl, Deena, Hemastat, Escape01, JackIL, and MrRed were the players.  At the end of two nail-biting rounds, Hemastat & MrRed were locked in battle for the lead.  But in Sudden-Death Overtime our Yensid Queen Hemastat once again demonstrated her awesome knowledge of the Truly Trivious.

"National Rabbit Week Trivia" Tuesday July 15

BoomerGirl, Deena, Hemastat, MrRed, Rod, and Sumo58 were the players.  The match was hopping from the very first question about Sunflower Seeds and proceeding to delve deeply in to Dandilions and dietary indiscretion.  Fast, flickering, animated action rabbits from Hollywood and elsewhere were all over the course again in Round Two.  The Third Round Bunnies moved from the silver screen to the magazine theme. Playboy Bunnies, that is.  Rod hopped up to the plate and showed the 35 MPH blast of speed only a rabbit on the run can exhibit, stealing the crown away from anyone even close.

Thursday Night Games

Kathlame hosted Ghastly Urban Legends & Celebrity Stuff, on July 10

BoomerGirl, Deena, MrRed, Rod, and newcomer Shawna were the players.  The Gruesome Round One ended in a virtual Dead-Heat.  In a bizarre twisted fate, Shawna's Legendary Celebrity Stories Superiority brought her a tie with TriviaMeister Rod.

CHICHI-1992 cleverly snatched the Trailing Edge Award from MrRed by virtue of her late arrival.

July 17th's Game featured Food Facts & Fantabulations, plus more Urban Legends

BoomerGirl, ChiChi-1992, Deena, LinnAnn50, BobbyGene, and MrRed were the players.  Food turned out far more frightening a subject than one would suspect.  Food fights and foul play kept the scores down in the first round.  Our second round featured more salacious celebrity and other slightly ludicrous legends.  In the end, LinnAnn50 took the crown, delivering a surprise upset to the traditional rivals, BoomerGirl and Deena.

We are seeking host volunteers.  If you have an idea for a simple online game we can all play in chat, bring it on !  Hosting is easy & MrRed will help you get set up and will keep score!

All you need to bring is a sharp mind and a loaded index finger.

Talk to MrRED or send e-mail to

ODE TO MR. RED

I am gonna write this little poem.

About someone I know you all knowum.

He along with his wife Deb.

Got this idea in their head.

To create this wonderful chat site.

Which give us Msers so much insight.

To learn, laugh, and complain there.

To meet others that really care.

The many friendships that we share.

Are so wonderous none can compare.

The words, Mr. Red, you insert every once in awhile..

Just makes us all wanna crack a big smile.

And the newsletters you do help create.

We all so much do appreciate.

This poem that you have just read.

Is just for you on your birthday, Mr. Red.

We wish for you to have many more.

Each far more better and happier than before.

Spent Youth

Author Unknown

How do I know my youth has been spent:
Because my get-up-and-go, got up and went
But in spite of all that, I'm able to grin
When I think where my get-up-and-go has been

Old age is golden, I've heard it said,
But sometimes I wonder as I go to bed
My ears are in a drawer, my teeth in a cup,
My eyes on a table until I wake up

When I was young my slippers were red
I could kick my heels right over my head
When I grew older my slippers were blue
But I could still dance the whole night thru

Now that I am old my slippers are black
I walk to the corner and puff my way back
The reason I know my youth is spent
My get-up-and-go got up and went

I get up each morning dust off my wits
Pick up the paper and read the "orbits"
If my name is missing, I know I'm not dead
So I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed ............

Life is a Journey

Author Unknown

Life is but a stopping place,
a pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.

We all have different journeys,
different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...

Our destination is a place,
far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
for some the journey's slow.

And when the journey finally ends,
we'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
together with the Lord..............

THANK YOU Bill........ England...................

A Helping Hand

Author Unknown

When I was down and out of luck
When dark the path, my life had took
When I was at my lowest low
A rope, a helping hand did throw

And pulled me up, out of the pit
And in the dark, a candle lit
And for my hunger gave me "Bread"
Then quenched a thirst inside my head

This loving servant helped me see
There's so much more to this, than me
By helping me, she showed me love
And led me to the One above

And now, alone, as I reflect
I find a spot of self-respect
That had been drowning in my tears
And had not shown itself in years

Let me through life, now walk, not run
Because the help of this true one
Did set me straight and on my way
And I'll remember day to day .

THANK YOU Bill............ England

MY MS COPING

Ok MS is what I got.

No help available not.

Go live your life I was told.

Hmm what results will then enfold.

Denial, denial now that is one way.

I'll just make MS go away.

A great actress I became.

The excuses I made....sounded so lame.

So what's the matter people would ask.

Hmm, hmm an answer I would have to think up fast.

Ha, I'll show everybody that I can be

Juat as normal as you, you'll see.

Opps a stumble.

Try harder can't take a tumble.

Sheeze it's getting harder to pull this charade.

Maybe I should give up and stop being afraid.

Okay, okay I have MS.

I't not my fault I have MS.

There is no shame in having MS.

Yes, yes I really have MS.

No, no it does not not have me, MS.

THANK YOU  BOOMERGIRL

General Information

PeopleWithMS Newsletter 08-19-07

OUR MISSION

Our objective is to provide an informal, supportive site for people seeking on-line information about  Multiple Sclerosis.  We aren't doctors, we aren't experts.  We just live it everyday.  We formed this site to share what we have learned, provide a focal point for exchange of information,  and give back to the community.

Support is a very big word when it comes to MS.  Doctors can only tell you so much during an office visit.  Leaving unanswered questions, concerns and issues.  People with any disease can often learn best from each other.  To this end we provide a chat forum to share information and suggestions, posting of the latest news, and links to authoritative sources of information.

There are many informative sites out there.  Visit them all!  You can never have enough information.  We do not intend to compete with any other sites Like coffee shops, each has it's own unique atmosphere and clientele.  There can never be enough of them.

Our chat is open for anything that has to do with MS. Some topics are not pleasant. But need to be talked about. If you have a problem, no matter what it is, chances are there is someone in chat that can help you. The one thing that PWMS will not accept is being laughed at for any MS problem. We expect all chatters to be considerate of others.

We have appointed JolyRox Coordinator of RAs.  Our current list of room administrators is:  Norma, LFShaw,  Debby, Kathlame, Linda-NV, MS_Kitty70, JackIL, Aileen, Soporific, Pixie_Dust, Barry, and Sumo58.  All host at scheduled times and frequently chat off-hosting hours as well.  They can help you if you need help.

Chat Etiquette Reminder

Please make a point to welcome any new chatter that comes in our room. Introduce yourself.  Ask if there is anything special they want to ask about, know about.  Don't ignore the new chatter.  Offer them coffee and a muffin.  Make them feel at home.  Don't keep chattering about peripheral MS stuff with others, or off-topic stuff.

Just keep in mind the one rule we have:  nobody gets to play Doctor in chat.  What we mean by that is;  don't go diagnosing chatters ailments or recommending medications.  Share your experiences, and what any of the drugs have done for you.  Don't encourage the idea that any medication is a miracle cure. Or dismiss any, or all, medicines as doing nothing.   Even the well known medications have a wide range of effectiveness.  The effectiveness of non-traditional and alternative medicines is even less certain.  So talk about your experiences, factual studies and medical trials.  Offer your opinions with care, and never recommend.  Third hand medical testimonials from a friend of your auto mechanic's wife aren't welcome, unless they are really funny.

Also keep in mind that Laws and Health Care options also vary widely both within countries and across the globe.  So be sensitive to the personal situations and tribulations chatters face.  Don't rub in how great things are for you.

Between the laughs, a serious note:  We are a support chat. With that said, we can only help by listening; none of us are professionals. In our years of chatting with MSers online, one of the most common problems is depression.  This is a very serious problem. We do feel sometimes just being a good friend, listening, and kidding around can help. And sometimes is just the right thing to turn the a bad mood around.  But when things just don't appear to be getting any better in a reasonable amount of time, and chat is just a temporary fix, it is time to get professional help. Many times it's as simple as a medication change.  Or something else.

I have not told many, but when my daughter was dx'd 12 years ago, I had to learn as much as I could. I wanted to know what is the worst case scenario, and what is the best with MS.  What courses could it take? How likely one versus the other? I wanted no more surprises.  Having my one and only daughter dx'd with MS was enough of a surprise. I went to Gaylord Rehab for a very long seminar on MS. It was the mental problems that really got most in a lot of troubles, because they were not ever taken seriously. I have seen this many times in my years online.  If you see someone in chat that seems headed down this road, try to cheer them up, focus on the positive, and give them some suggestions. If they come back just as bad off, try again.  If they keep coming back, let them know that they might be in need of some support beyond what any of us can provide in chat.

So, About Our Chat:  We try to maintain a positive, upbeat attitude.  We may have MS, but MS doesn't have us.  It's not the focal point of our existence, it's just one part.  So if there's a problem, no need to moan and groan - it just needs solving.  Go over it, around it, blow it up, or joke about it.  We won't ignore somebody's problem because it's gross, unseemly, or offends somebody else's sensibilities.  We'll help figure out a solution.  If somebody want's to wallow in their problem, we're not going to be too sympathetic.

Don't feel bad if you visit our chat and don't like things:  The folks in it, what's talked about, the limited avatars and emoticons, the sounds, or anything else.  We don't have room for every MSer in the universe, and don't claim to cater to every taste.  If you want something different,  we encourage you to search out another chat room.  There are chats for those that want to wallow in pity, moan and groan. sing songs on a voice chats, fantasy-date, or do whatever comes after that on web cam chats. If you don't find what you need, or think you can do better, we encourage you to go buy your own web server, start your own website, and run your own chat to cater to that unmet need.  Please let us know about your site and chat, so we can direct any like-minded folks your way.
