| Hey folks, I am sumo58.
Here's my story. Back in April of '96 I woke up blind in my right eye.
I didn't have a clue what was happening. We called the Dr. the next
day, who sent me to an eye specialist. He examined me and said I might
have MS. Stating 50% of people with optic neuritis have MS. I still
didn't believe him.My
regular Dr. sent me for a MRI, and that was when then confirmed the
diagnosis. I still thought they were wrong. I can't even spell it, so I
can't have it. The doc didn't believe me. I believe it now. I haven't
had it rough as some, right now it is mostly cognitive problems. A
little nerve damage in right eye, etc. I was first treated with
steroids, which I hated (Barry Bonds can have mine). It does explain a
lot, I never could stand heat, crappy balance and stuff. After having
this for years, Dr Sumo (I am not a real Doctor I just play on on TV -
HAHA) believes we don't just get it, I think we have it all along and
it takes time to appear. I was under a little stress at time it
appeared. I tried to for a while to think that was cause also slipped
in the driveway on ice, which knocked me out. Though I thought it might
be concussion related, I excused my symptoms for a few years. The docs
in a effort to slow down the lesions, started me on Avonex.
I didn't care for the
neurologist, so I took the next one to who moved into area. Nice guy
but I had a hard time understanding him (he is from Pakistan) and he
seemed to care. He had me try Rebif, which like the Avonex was rough on
me and my family (I became a miserable person with both). Then hew
switched me to copaxone. I did the Copaxone for
about a 1.5 years. I went off that and
did 9 rounds of Novantrone. My nice Dr recently moved out of the area,
just as I was having my last Novantrone treatment. Another great doctor
has moved in. He has a great sense of humor (which is
normally
surgically removed from most doctors in med school - he must have
played hookey that day). He said I am good for the next year but we are
talking over possible treatments in the future. So here I am, a 47 year
old dad with two girls (both in college), I'm not pertty and don't have
rhythm but I am
doing ok. Mr. doc sumo 58 alias jaychoward Visits to Sumo's Cookie & son Stephen visit Sumo58 in Maine |
